Would you build a house before laying the foundations? No. Then why would you detail your vehicle without a pre-wash? 

A pre-wash is essentially the foundations of a house, but on your vehicle (and slightly less harmful than concrete!) This step is often rushed or skipped completely, missing this step can result in swirl marks and marring.
